The short answer is: not all of them. While the popular image of a spider often includes eight eyes peering out from its cephalothorax, the reality is far more diverse. Many spider species do possess eight eyes, arranged in a variety of patterns that are crucial for identifying different species. However, some have six, four, two, or even no eyes at all!

The diversity in the number and arrangement of eyes reflects the different hunting strategies and lifestyles of various spider species. For instance:

Their primary sensory input comes from the vibrations transmitted through their webs, rather than their sight. Cave-dwelling spiders, for instance, often have reduced or absent eyesight as it's less critical in their dark environments.

The Case of Eyeless Spiders

Some spiders, particularly those inhabiting extremely dark environments like caves, have evolved to have no eyes at all. Their senses of touch and vibration are highly developed to compensate for the lack of sight.
